How to play Antiguan Warri
Warri is a two-player sowing game played on a board of 12 pits, six on each side. Each pit starts with 4 seeds, 48 in all.
Sowing
On your turn, pick up all the seeds in one pit on your side and sow them one at a time into the following pits, counterclockwise.
- If you sow all the way round the board, skip the pit you emptied.
Capturing
- If your last seed lands in an opponent's pit and leaves it with 2 or 3 seeds, you capture that pit.
- You also capture the pits just before it on the opponent's side, as long as each holds 2 or 3 seeds. The chain stops at the first pit that doesn't.
- A move that would capture every seed on the opponent's side captures nothing.
Feeding
- If your opponent's side is empty, you must make a move that gives them seeds.
- If no move can do that, you take all the seeds left on the board and the game ends.
Repeated positions
If the same board comes round three times with the same player to move and no capture in between, the game stops. Each player takes the seeds on their own side.
Winning
- The first player to capture 25 or more seeds wins.
- If both players finish with 24, the game is a draw.
- A match is one game. You can also offer a draw or resign.
